Human Right 2 Water participated in the 42nd UN-Water Meeting held in Geneva at the end of September. UN-Water Members and Partners gathered to discuss the UN System-wide Strategy on Water and Sanitation and preparations for the 2026 UN Water Conference.

CEO Amanda Loeffen attended this meeting in order to contribute to the structured five key entry points of the sessions—collective action, country-level engagement, intergovernmental processes, accelerated progress, and joint learning. In the meeting it was also highlighted that there was a record-level visibility for World Water Day 2025. Overall, the meeting focused on discussing joint programming and capacity development initiatives, and reviewed progress on integrating water across climate and development agendas, including activities planned for COP 30.

The meeting also reflected on implications for the UN80 reform initiative – a system-wide reform effort launched by UN Secretary-General António Guterres in March 2025, timed with the UN’s 80th anniversary and intended to make the organisation more agile, effective and fit for 21st-century challenges, with members reaffirming their commitment to collaborate despite current geopolitical uncertainties.
