New Expert Committee Chair

Congratulations to Amael Notini, the new chair of the Expert Committee.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Amael Notini as the new Chair of the Human Right 2 Water Expert Committee. This committee plays a critical role in advancing the understanding, recognition, and implementation of the human rights to water and sanitation across global forums and in support of Sustainable Development Goal 6.

Amael brings with him a strong academic and professional background in human rights and water governance. He currently serves as a Legislative Consultant for the Brazilian Federal Senate, focusing on human rights and citizenship. He is also a PhD candidate in International Human Rights Law at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), where he previously earned his LLM and law degree. His research explores the intersection of human rights, water law, and environmental protection.

We also take this opportunity to express our deep appreciation to Dr. Pedi Obani, the outgoing Chair of the Expert Committee, for her dedicated leadership and significant contributions to the committee’s development. Dr. Obani now takes on the important role of President of the Board of HR2W, and we are confident that her continued involvement will further strengthen the organisation’s impact.

Prior to his current role, Amael served as the legal coordinator for a national NGO in Brazil dedicated to the human rights to water and sanitation, and he has worked with international and multilateral organisations on the legal and institutional modelling of large-scale infrastructure projects. His broad experience across academia, legislation, and civil society advocacy will be invaluable in leading the Expert Committee.

As Amael Notini steps into this new leadership role, we look forward to the continued growth and influence of the Expert Committee under his guidance. His experience and vision will no doubt advance our shared mission of ensuring access to safe water and sanitation for all, as fundamental human rights.
